Our new Tanker 1 is now operational. The truck is a four wheel drive Hino Ranger PRO 8z crew cab-chass and it is fitted with the latest version of the CFA tanker body. The tanker incorporates a number of crew safety features that are result of several years of research by CFA and partner agencies, in conjunction with CSIRO. The tanker carries 3,750 litres of water for firefighting, of which 750 litres is reserved for crew safety. For those interested, it is powered by a 6 cylinder, 7.96 litre, turbo diesel engine, through a six speed Hino transmission. The pump set is a twin cylinder 22kw Hatz diesel engine and GAAM Mk. 325 single-stage pump.
The dimensions of the tanker are as follows:
Height: 3.01 metres
Length: 7.83 metres
Overall widths:
Body: 2.49 metres
Mirrors: 3.00 metres
Operational weight: 13.25 tonnes
Turning circle: 19.8 metres
Please check your property and ensure the tanker is able to gain access in an emergency.

Previous Hino 3.4D Tanker 1
|
The now replaced Tanker 1 is a 1987 Hino GT175 4x4, that is still in very good condition considering its age and the amount of heavy duty work it has done. This truck has now left us, but will not be retired. After a few months at Doreen, she apparently is going to Region 15 as their spare. We will be sad to see her go but are pleased to know that it will continue in service for some time yet.

International D1610 4WD Tanker 'A'
|
 |
We have recently recieved news on our former Tanker 'A', which was purchased by a farmer and CFA volunteer with the Mia Mia Brigade. He has obviously spent considerable time and money to restore the truck and it now operates as an on farm appliance in support of local brigades.
|
International Acco series pumper
Some years ago the brigade saw the need for the provision of a pumper to serve not only the township, but the surrounding area. The allocation of such an appliance was not supported by the CFA at the time and so the brigade membership decided their needs could be best met by purchasing an ex-MFB pumper. The appliance was subsequently bought and refurbished using the skills of our members and this is the result of their efforts.

Toyota Dyna with godiva pump
|
 |
The Acco was subsequently replaced by CFA with a Light Pumper, a Toyota Dyna cab-chassis with Volkswagon powered godiva pump. The VW was capable of great flow rates, but could be awkward to start and difficult to run in high temperatures. Many of these pump sets were fitted up in trailers as high capacity quick fills. The main failing with this appliance was that if supply to the delivery outlets was started from the first aid tank it had to be then shut off in order to change over to the mains supply.
